Jungfraujoch train station is inside this rock massif Observation tower is on top, we'll take the elevator up later While it's 72F in Grindelwald below, it's 36F up here The ice of the Eiger glacier - seen from the Jungfraujoch Observation deck and astronomy dome above The Mönch 4,107m Looking back down to Grindelwald, 8,000' below The Jungfrau - people are visible in the lower right near rock Eigergletscher Station - from here we walk down the Eiger Trail Eigergletcher Station - starting our hike along the Eiger base But first some lunch at Restaurant Eigergletscher Starting out on the Eiger Trail - about 5 min. from the station We're above the treeline, and just below the clouds Kleine Scheidegg station and the cog rail trains coming up Grindelwald is visible down in the valley - our destination Too many flowers to show them all - just a sampling Eiger North Face from the Eiger Trail Black and white sheep grazing near the trail Fields of delicate white flowers all along the trail Down we go along the towards Grindlewald, 4000' below Garden of Cairns (trailmarkers) - usually spaced along a trail Cairns close up - the center one forms an arch Waterfalls are everywhere along the base of the Eiger Fields of flowers along the trail This waterfall is a real gusher The waterfalls above flow down thru this crack in the rocks Too many different kinds and colors of flowers to count Grindelwald (below) is getting closer (1 hr 50 min to go) Looking back up at the Eiger North Face, waterfall and meadows The trail descends steeply in some places, we're near Alpiglen Approaching the village of Alpiglen We took the train from Alpiglen back down to Grindelwald
